Veneers are the cosmetic procedure of choice for many patients who want to improve the shape, color, and appearance of their teeth. At Steinbach Dental, you’ll be under the care of experienced Brookfield dentists ready to help you improve your smile with veneers.

Many patients wonder what is involved in the veneer procedure. Typically, the procedure is completed in three separate visits for Veneersconsultation, preparation, and placement of your new veneers. Here’s what to expect at each visit.

Consultation and Treatment Planning

Your first visit will consist of a comprehensive exam, which may include x-rays or other diagnostic procedures to ensure that your teeth are in good health for the procedure. Dr. Steinbach will discuss your goals and concerns and help you determine whether veneers are the right option for you.

Tooth Preparation

During your second visit, a small amount of enamel is removed from the surface of the affected teeth. Usually, about half a millimeter of enamel must be removed to create space for the veneers. You may receive local anesthetic during this portion of the procedure.

Then Dr. Steinbach will make an impression of your teeth and send it to the dental laboratory for creation of your customized veneers. It usually takes about one to two weeks for the finished veneers to arrive at the office. Depending on the condition of your teeth, you may receive temporary veneers while you wait.

Placing Your Veneers

During your final appointment, Dr. Steinbach will first ensure that the finished veneers fit your teeth properly and make minor adjustments as needed.

Next, your teeth will be cleaned, polished and etched. Etching creates a slightly rougher tooth surface, which helps your teeth bond more strongly with the cement.

Finally, the cement is applied, the veneers are placed on your teeth, and a laser beam is used to dry the cement quickly.

Once the veneers are bonded in place, Dr. Steinbach will evaluate your new bite and make any final adjustments. You may be asked to return for a routine followup visit in a few weeks to see how your gums and jaw are responding and complete any further adjustments as needed.
